Your Go-to Weekend Itinerary for 2020 Kansas City Restaurant Week

Treat yourself to 10 days and two weekends of special, multicourse menus during Kansas City’s premier dining event, Jan. 10-19. Whether traveling into town to enjoy the feast or simply celebrating during a long weekend, use this go-to itinerary to make the most of 2020 Kansas City Restaurant Week.

FRIDAY

Evening

Start the night right by venturing to one of the new restaurants participating in this year’s 2020 event. For a more refined evening, try Corvino Supper Club & Tasting Room, an upscale dinner spot helmed by James Beard Award-nominated chef Michael Corvino nestled in the Crossroads Arts District. To ease into the weekend, start with internationally inspired small plates at Tribe Street Kitchen in the River Market.

Settle in at your hotel next. To be in the heart of the dining action, try one of the following properties:

If you’re still in the mood to explore the town, head to one of the many craft breweries, local distilleries or cocktail lounges in the region.

SATURDAY

Morning

Since KCRW only applies to lunch and dinner, you have a little more leeway in what you can enjoy for breakfast. If you’re an early riser, start with a fresh smoothie from Ruby Jean’s Juicery, located Downtown and on Troost Avenue.

Then, ride the KC Streetcar to The City Market to get caffeinated courtesy of either Thou Mayest or City Market Coffee—both excellent options featuring pour overs and espresso drinks.

For late sleepers, several participating restaurants are actually serving multicourse menus during brunch. Consult the full list of restaurants to find something that piques your interest.

Afternoon

Visit Blue Moose Bar and Grill in Overland Park or Bo Lings on the Country Club Plaza to enjoy a more traditional lunch. Elevated options include The Majestic Restaurant and Chaz on the Plaza, both longtime Kansas City favorites.

Afterwards, hit up the locally owned and high-end boutique shops at the Plaza, home to many of the trendiest retailers in the region. Or, head to one of the city’s many national museums, including the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum and the National WWI Museum and Memorial, each a vital institution preserving American and world history.

Evening

Saturday night dinner is always special. Make the meal perfect with savory pasta dishes at Lazia in the Crossroads Hotel. Other must-try concepts include everything from Midwest comfort cuisine at Rye and farm-to-table dining at Webster House to French fare from Westport Café & Bar and Kansas City ‘cue at Burnt End BBQ.

Prefer dinner and a movie? Make an event out of your meal by visiting the AMC Dine-In menu at three different locations (Legends, Prairiefire and Olathe).

No matter how you play it, a perfectly selected nightcap makes any trip memorable. Try dinner at nautically themed The Ship and ease into expertly crafted cocktails at the bar once dessert is done. There’s also Beer Kitchen, which is based right in the heart of the buzzy Westport nightlife district, and Brewery Emperial for craft taps brewed in-house.

SUNDAY

Morning

Give yourself a rest in the morning and start slow. Grab a pastry from Heirloom Bakery & Hearth or visit Donutology, a local, craft-your-own miniature donut spot with near-countless combinations.

Round out your morning with one of 33 things to do for free in Kansas City, offering great experiences without any price tags for admission.

Afternoon

Then, send off your weekend in style with one final KCRW meal.

At The Clubhouse Experience, visitors can enjoy everything from Topgolf to shuffleboard alongside bites of upscale pub tastes. There’s also Brewer’s Kitchen, which touts a vast array of burgers marinated in beer produced onsite, and RC’s Restaurant & Lounge, a crave-worthy fried chicken joint specializing in downhome favorites.
